Barry captured these images of a rare Eurasian Collared-Dove after it was spotted by Stu Mackenzie at the corner of Fifty Road and Ridge Road in mid-July 2007:

On July 20, 2007,Barry found this Ruff in the Paradise Pond along the trail to the tip of the Willows besides Spencer Creek in Dundas. Then one and a half hours later he was able to relocate it at the tip and captured these photos:

These images were captured at the Grimsby Lagoons on June 13 and 15, 2007, where Barry discoverd a very unusual nesting group of American Coots. There is very little recent evidence of American Coots breeding in the HSA. The breeding bird atlas has only seven out of the fourty seven squares with them confirmed to be breeding and this particular area wasn’t one of them. And most of those records were of older dates (as per Bob Curry’s Birds of Hamilton and Surrounding Areas page 183). This nest has six little ones, keeping the adults busy.

The best way to explain the reason why the bird is leucistic and not an albino is that it is pigment impaired and not snow white as in albinism.
