Bird Study Group: Avian Influenza – Understanding the Virus Behind the Headlines
February 23 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Wild birds play an important role in the ecology of avian influenza. Dr. Jolene Giacinti, a Veterinarian, Wildlife Health Specialist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, will introduce the basics of the virus, how it is monitored in wild bird populations, and what recent surveillance has revealed. Using examples from fieldwork and research projects, the presentation will place avian influenza in a broader ecological and conservation context, highlighting both what we know and what scientists are still working to understand.
Doors open at 7:00 PM, presentation begins at 7:30 PM.
