Loggerhead Shrike: On the Brink of Disappearance in Ontario
The Eastern Loggerhead Shrike, a migratory subspecies that breeds only in Ontario, is on the brink of disappearance. With less than 100 individuals counted annually in recent years, a hands-on approach is necessary to prevent the extirpation of this unique predatory songbird. Since 2003, Wildlife Preservation Canada has led a multi-faceted approach to the conservation of the loggerhead shrike– monitoring and protecting the wild population, conducting habitat restoration, and releasing captive-bred shrikes into the wild. Find out what is involved in the program, its success stories and what you can do to help!
