Hamilton’s Climate Action Strategy – An overview and exploration of the links between nature and climate resilience

Lynda Lukasik and Cathrin Winkelmann from the City of Hamilton’s Office of Climate Change Initiatives will provide an overview of Hamilton’s community-wide Climate Action Strategy.  This will include an overview of the mitigation and adaptation plans within the Strategy and the climate impacts that our community is already struggling with.  Actions within the Strategy that are nature-focused will be highlighted to underscore the importance of natural systems for climate resilience in both rural and heavily urbanized areas like downtown Hamilton.  Learn more about everything from the City’s exploration of the feasibility of replacing a paved area with a ‘sponge plaza’ to why green building standards are important for natural ecosystems.

Lynda Lukasik is the Director of the City of Hamilton’s Office of Climate Change Initiatives – the entity charged with overseeing, monitoring, facilitating and accelerating wherever possible, the implementation of Hamilton’s community-wide Climate Action Strategy. Lynda is a life-long Hamiltonian and, prior to joining the City in December of 2023, worked for 20+ years as the Executive Director of Environment Hamilton, a not for-profit environmental advocacy and education organization. Lynda holds a BSc in Biochemistry from McMaster University, a Masters’ of Environmental Studies from Dalhousie University and a PhD in Planning from the University of Waterloo.
