Monthly Meeting: Queer Ecology – A Celebration of Human and Non-human Diversity

Join naturalist May Matchim (she/her) for a talk on Queer Ecology, during which she will highlight a few of the plants and animals around us that challenge heteronormativity and the sex binary. Learn how some frogs and wildflowers can change sexes. Discover same-sex bird couples that raise young together. Prepare to have your assumptions about the natural world fundamentally challenged.

May is an artist and naturalist currently based in Toronto. She’s been involved with a number of environmental organizations including the Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre and Royal Ontario Museum. She’s a part of the Feminist Bird Club and helps lead events with the Toronto Chapter. Currently she’s directing a feature-length Queer ecology documentary called Understanding Myself as an Amphibian.
