Walk in Fletcher Creek Ecological Preserve

Bruce and Laurie Mackenzie will be leading us into one their favorite places. We will be visiting inspiring springs, sources of Spencer Creek at the southern edge of the Galt Moraine and look at the geomorphology of the area and how this effects the surrounding forests. We will speak of peat filled lakes and the recent retreat of glaciers. Our goal will be to find the Dr. Bert McClaren rock in a magnificent Hemlock grove. Dr. MacLaren and Marion Shivas were instrumental in having these lands put into public ownership. The hike will take us into the north half of the Ecological Preserve. The ground is fairly level but be prepared to wear proper footwear for this time of year.

Parking is on Concession Rd 7, Wellington County, 600 m north of Gore Rd. This is about 400 m north of the rail road tracks. The parking will be along the east side of the road but be careful for the shoulders south of the trail entrance can be extremely soft. The Conservation Authority parking lot 200 m south of the tracks is not the correct one for this hike.
