Winter Tour of Hayesland Swamp

HNC members are invited to join staff on a tour of the frozen Hayesland Swamp Nature Sanctuary, which was expanded by 50 acres last winter thanks to generous donations from members like you. Learn about the property, the importance of preserving wetlands and our wetland acquisition campaign, and ongoing stewardship work at the site.

Participants will walk on the frozen surface of the swamp which is no more than a foot deep at this time of the year. There is no trail system and the swamp has an uneven frozen surface due to downed debris and trees. Please wear appropriate winter gear and footwear (ice spikes may be needed depending on the conditions). Carpooling and parking will be arranged via email. The walk is weather-dependent and participants will be notified via email if the event is cancelled.
