2024 Urban Greenspaces Botanical Study
This report is a summary of botanical surveys completed in the spring of 2024 in the City of Hamilton, Ontario. The surveys were funded by the HNC as a precursor to the 2024-2026 Hamilton Natural Areas Inventory. Botanical surveys were conducted at eleven urban natural areas from April 22 to June 15, 2024. The eleven sites were chosen from a map produced by Hamilton Naturalists’ Club member, Paul Smith of 139 urban natural areas across the City of Hamilton that have been overlooked in previous Natural Area Inventories.
These surveys will give us an even better idea of the task ahead of us with regard to restoring ecosystem function across the region, so we can make Hamilton not only, the City of Waterfalls, but also the greenest, most biodiverse city in Southern Ontario.
